Singapore's Tiger Airways has posted a 48% growth in passenger numbers for December 2009.

The total number of passengers carried by the low-cost airline increased 48% to 456,000 from a year ago, says Tiger.

It did not provide traffic or capacity figures, but says its passenger load factor grew seven percentage points to 90%.

For its fiscal third quarter ending 31 December 2009, total passenger numbers grew 54% to 1.3 million people from the corresponding quarter a year ago, says Tiger.

"We are extremely pleased with our continued growth and robust performance during the third quarter of our financial year," says Tiger's president and CEO Tony Davis.

The airline, which debuted on the Singapore stock exchange on 13 January, says it plans to release monthly operating statistics from now onwards. It will release its third fiscal quarter financial results on or before 16 March, it adds.
