Turkey will receive its first Peace Eagle Boeing 737 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) system aircraft before the end of 2013, a company official says.
"We are working some details out as we speak for our first aircraft delivery this year to the Turkish air force," says Tim Peters, vice-president of mobility, surveillance and engagement overview.
The aircraft is the first of four such examples for Turkey, and has been completed to a very similar standard to the six Wedgetail surveillance aircraft flying with the Royal Australian Air Force. South Korea also operates four similar aircraft under the moniker Peace Eye.
If Boeing were to be late in delivering the Turkish aircraft against its new schedule, the company could be liable to pay damages. "Our contract does have provisions for liquidated damages," Peters says. "We will work with our Turkish customer on what specifically those liquidated damages are."

Ankara's AEW&C acquisition was approved in December 2003, with its original programme schedule having called for a first delivery during 2006.
