Turkish Airlines' is pressing forward with plans to order up to 15 high-capacity aircraft, focusing on the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8.

The airline had originally indicated in 2010 that it would look for around five or six large jets for its fleet development.

Turkish Airlines chairman Hamdi Topcu indicates that a decision should be reached around the time of the Farnborough air show in July.

He points out that the capacity in Istanbul is increasing, notably following the decision to open a third airport for the city which will be able to accommodate 120 million passengers per year.

Topcu says Turkish Airlinesis discussing possible delivery of large aircraft in 2014. The carrier intends to build a fleet of 300 aircraft by 2023 and is "looking closely" at the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 Max.
