A Bell-Boeing CV-22 operated by the US Air Force (USAF) special operations branch crashed at Eglin Air Force Base (AFB) in Florida on 13 June. The five crewmembers aboard the aircraft were transported to area hospitals.
The aircraft was on a "routine training mission," according to the USAF. The aircraft was assigned to the 1st special operations wing at nearby Hurlburt Field, Florida.
Details of the crash are not immediately available. The US Marine Corps recently suffered a crash of a similar aircraft, an MV-22, during training in Morocco. The last known USAF CV-22 incident was a 2010 accident in Zabul province, Afghanistan, which resulted in four deaths.
The USAF declines to provide additional detail, citing an ongoing investigation into the crash.
