US Airways says it has financing commitments in place for 24 Airbus A320 family aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2011 and 2012.
The company outlined the financing in its latest investor update released today. Twelve of the aircraft are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2011, and the remaining 12 aircraft should be delivered to the carrier in the latter half of 2012.
Year-end 2010 mainline fleet totals at US Airways mainline were 339 and 281 aircraft in its express operations, which includes wholly-owned subsidiaries Piedmont and PSA and contract carriers Air Wisconsin, Chautauqua, Mesa, Republic and Trans States. Those carriers operate 112 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200s, 50 Bombardier Dash 8 turboprops, 14 CRJ700s, 38 CRJ900s, 20 Embraer E-170s, nine ERJ-145s and 38 E-175s.
Based on its latest fleet update, US Airways' mainline fleet has decreased from 349 aircraft at year-end 2009. Since that time US Airways has shed five Boeing 757s, five 737-300s and four Embraer E-190s. At the same time two A330s and two A320s have been added to the fleet.
US Airways explains its 2010 total system capacity is expected to rise slightly, with mainline capacity rising 1%, domestic falling 1% and international increasing 8%. Express capacity should fall by 1%.
