The US Army has awarded Lockheed Martin a contract to extend the Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) technology development effort worth $64 million.
The company says that the 27 month technology development programme includes designing, testing and demonstrating the missile's guidance section.
"Lockheed Martin's JAGM guidance section draws upon a legacy of trusted precision-guided weapons on the battlefield today including Hellfire, Longbow and Javelin," said Frank St. John, Lockheed's vice president of tactical missiles and combat maneuver systems.
Lockheed says its JAGM design offers "warfighters operational flexibility and combat effectiveness and survivability with a single, low-cost advanced missile."
