Elbit Systems has performed a series of joint missions with its Hermes 450 and Hermes 900 unmanned air vehicles using the same universal ground control station (UGCS).
During the successful trials, the tactical UAVs transmitted imagery, plus electronic and communications intelligence data to the ground station operators, while using different communications systems.
Elbit says the ability to control and manage the simultaneous use of two different UAV types will provide users with enhanced operational flexibility. Each specific type can be adapted to a specific mission, enabling highly complex mission scenarios to be satisfied, the company says.

The Israeli company also highlights the cost benefits of using a common GCS, as opposed to having to support two sets of software architecture and training requirements.
Capable of simultaneously controlling two parallel missions, each managed by a single operator, the UGCS also supports advanced features such as automatic taxiing, take-off and landing, and autonomous flight systems common to Elbit's Hermes family of vehicles.
