Vietnamese start-up carrier VietJet has delayed its first commercial flight for the third time due to weak domestic travel demand.

It now has up to May 2010 to commence its first flight, says a spokeswoman for the carrier.

"We just got approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam to have the deadline extended until May," she says.

VietJet was supposed to begin operations in 2008 with domestic routes but has since pushed the date back three times, she adds.

"It is a difficult time for the airline industry and the passenger demand is still very low," says the spokeswoman.

Local media reports say the carrier's license might be revoked if it fails to begin operations by May 2010.
