Vietnam Airlines has signed an agreement with Airbus to purchase four Airbus A380s, and plans to fly the double-deck jets on new services to the USA.

The airline signed a memorandum of agreement with Airbus for four A380s, says an airline spokesman.

Vietnam Airlines hopes to receive its first A380 in 2015, he adds.

"We hope that the A380s will be able to cover the growth that we expect to see in the market in the future," he adds.

The airline will use the A380s on long-haul routes, such as planned services from Ho Chi Minh City to the USA.

Vietnam Airlines has a fleet of 10 Boeing 777-200ERs, which it operates on long-haul services to Paris and Frankfurt.

The airline has 10 Airbus A350s and and 16 Boeing 787s on order, according to Flightglobal's ACAS database.
