VIETNAM AIRLINES HAS signed a contract to purchase two Fokker 70 twinjets for use on domestic routes and as Government VIP aircraft.
The deal, reportedly worth $50 million, calls for the two 70-seat aircraft to be delivered by the first quarter of 1996. Vietnam Airlines plans to use the aircraft as a partial replacement for its fleet of 12 elderly Tupolev Tu-134s. The purchase is understood to include a VIP kit to convert the aircraft for official use when required.
A decision is expected soon, on the lease of up to ten Airbus Industrie A320s, to replace seven A320s wet-leased from Air France.
