Canadian low-cost operator Zoom Airlines this spring plans to introduce scheduled transatlantic service from Toronto and Montreal to Rome.
The carrier, which recently received Canadian Government approval to link Canada with Italy, says it will launch twice-weekly flights to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport from Toronto on May 3, and weekly service from Montreal on May 6.
Zoom will compete with Air Canada’s thrice-weekly Boeing 767-300 service on the Toronto-Rome route.
“Our customer research indicates a strong interest in Italy. The addition of Rome is another step in establishing Zoom as a value focused carrier for long haul destinations,” says Zoom CEO Kris Dolinki.
With the addition of Rome, Zoom will serve seven European gateways nonstop from Toronto and three from Montreal.
According to Flight’s ACAS database, Ottawa-based Zoom operates a fleet of three 767-300ERs and one Boeing 757-200. Zoom’s subsidiary Zoom UK is based at Gatwick and flies from London to Bermuda and New York’s John F. Kennedy International airport.
