Gulfstream was one of four big beasts of business aviation exhibiting, and arrived at the show claiming its latest city-pair speed record for the G650, this time between Melbourne, where it had been for the Avalon air show, and Abu Dhabi.

The newly certificated ultra-long-range business jet, making its first appearance in the Middle East, was carrying five crew and two passengers and took 13h 5min, cruising at an average speed of M0.87 for the 6,329nm (11,709km) flight.

Also at the Abu Dhabi Air Expo was Bombardier, showing its Global 6000, Embraer, which had the Phenom 300 and Lineage 1000 on display, and Dassault with a Falcon 2000LXS, the latest variant of its twin-engined jet. The French airframer is marking 20 years since the first flight of the original Falcon 2000. Almost 500 have been delivered.
