Russia's defence ministry has ordered 40 Mil Mi-8AMTSh helicopters in a deal worth Rb12.6 billion ($380 million).

Yuri Borisov, deputy defence minister, formally signed the contract for the armed assault variant with Russian Helicopters chief executive Dmitry Petrov during a visit to the manufacturer's Ulan-Ude production plant earlier this month.

Deliveries are due to commence next year, says Petrov.

The Mi-8AMTSh updates the basic transport variant of the helicopter with Shturm-V air-to-surface missiles, B8V20 rocket pods and 23mm gun pods.
