Romania's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is in "advanced discussions" with investors over the planned sale of state-owned airline Tarom.

In a statement, transport minister Ovidiu Silaghi says it has approached potential buyers with "extensive experience in the field" with a view to acquiring the SkyTeam carrier.

Privatisation of Tarom has been insisted on by the International Monetary Fund and should take place this year.

The Ministry has also finalised the appointments for the airline's new management - including the CEO and non-executive board of directors - it says, alongside those for airport operator Bucharest Airports.
