Zambia has taken delivery of eight Hongdu K-8P Karakorum intermediate jet trainer aircraft, bringing its total inventory of the type to 15.

The eight aircraft were handed over at Mumbwa air base on 21 March, China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC) said in a statement.

CATIC says that in addition to performing in the trainer role, the two-seat K-8P can also be equipped as a light-attack aircraft.

The K-8P is powered by a single Garrett TFE731-2A turbofan engine. The main operators of the K-8 are China, Egypt and Pakistan, with the type also used by a number of African and Latin American nations.
