Indonesia's Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has confirmed that the missing Sukhoi Superjet 100 has been located.

The aircraft was found near the peak of Mount Salak at about 09:30 local time, says a Basarnas official.

"A search helicopter found it on Mount Salak, we don't have any more information now," she adds.

There are no details on the extent of the damage to the aircraft, or if there are any survivors.

Another Barsanas official had earlier told Flightglobal Pro that eight helicopters were deployed this morning to search for the aircraft near Mount Salak, where it was lost from radar contact on 9 May.

The aircraft, serial number 95004 and tail number 97004, had completed 500 flights, accumulating more than 800 flight hours.

The aircraft was on its second demonstration flight of the day and had departed from Jakarta's Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport at 14:35 local time before losing radar contact 20 minutes later near the town of Bogor.

Local reports say the pilot requested to descend from 10,000ft to 6,000ft despite the mountainous terrain.

Mount Salak rises to over 7,000ft. The aircraft was fuelled for a 4h flight.

There were 44 people people aboard, including airline officials and journalists.
