Bell Helicopter has appointed Mark Gibson to the role of vice-president for advanced concept development, signalling its intention to focus closely on future rotorcraft technologies. Bell says Gibson, a former USMC attack helicopter pilot and the first marine to command an army aviation unit, will work closely with Dan McIlroy, who heads up the company's XworX research and development facility. Gibson's key role will be to provide new concepts based on emerging customer requirements, with the XworX team supplying the R&D capability combined with rapid prototyping. Part of Gibson's remit will be developing the 20-year strategic roadmap for military programmes at Bell.
