Miroslav Kula, 53, has been president of CSA Czech Airlines since September 1999. In August 1999, the CSA board of directors appointed him deputy chairman of the board.
After completing his secondary school education in 1965, Kula began his studies in the Faculty of Flight at the Czechoslovak Military Academy in Brno, majoring in aircraft construction.
After graduating from the Academy in 1970, he began working at what was then Czechoslovak Airlines. He first worked as an independent technologist and later as an independent technician in the aircraft engineering department. From 1978 he was deputy (technical) to the director and in 1988 he became company director.
In January 1989, Kula was appointed deputy (technical) to the CSA general-director. Two years later the job title was changed, following CSA reorganisation, into vice-president - technical. From 1992 to 1993, Kula was a member of the CSA board of directors.
Since 1994, he has been a member of the Association of European Airlines' technical operational committee, and since 1997 a member of the IATA technical subcommittee.
The CSA president is married, has two adult children and counts among his hobbies both culture and sports (skiing, cycling, squash, basketball and swimming).
