BOEING - 787 troubles and losing the US Air Force's KC-X tanker deal to arch-rival Airbus may leave the pre-eminent US airframer seeming beleaguered, but it took 288 airliner orders in the first quarter, up 52% on the same period during its record 2007. And it delivered 115 commercial aircraft during the quarter, including its 1,400th 747, a -400 Freighter (pictured) delivered to GE Commercial Aviation Services for lease to Volga-Dnepr subsidiary AirBridgeCargo Airlines.

Bad Week
SRILANKAN - The island flag carrier's relationship with Emirates ended with the failure to renew a management contract going back to 1998. It also lost access to its Emirates codesharing deal, and customers will no longer earn Emirates frequent-flyer points. Chief executive Peter Hill, an Emirates appointee who has worked from Dubai since Colombo cancelled his work permit in December, left the carrier. Emirates wants to sell its 44% stake for about $150 million.
