More than 40 of the UK Royal Navy’s fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters will participate in mass flypasts at the Royal International Air Tattoo on 18 and 19 July, as part of a major celebration for the service’s centenary of aviation activities.
Conducted under the so-called “Fly Navy 100” series of commemorative events taking place throughout 2009, the flypasts will involve current assets including BAE Systems Harrier GR7/9s, British Aerospace Jetstream observer trainers, AgustaWestland AW101 Merlin HM1, Lynx and Westland Sea King helicopters.

The Lynx-equipped Black Cats helicopter team and four Hawks from the Serco-manned Black Seahawks team, along with their display partners – two modified FR Aviation-operated Dassault Falcon 20 business jets – will also take part.
The entire formation performed a successful demonstration of the flypast during the final arrivals day for RIAT at Royal Air Force base Fairford in Gloucestershire on 17 July, beating patchy weather conditions.
