AirAsia X has signed up for the Airbus A350, placing an order for 10 XWBs and is the first carrier to confirm it has opted for a 10-abreast configuration. The airline group's head Tony Fernandes says the 400 seaters will be delivered from early 2016. The deal, which is worth $2.4 billion at list prices, includes five options.

"Airbus have really practised what they've preached," says Fernandes. "My favourite people are in [Airbus] customer finance who love buying and selling planes to us."
