The Israeli Arrow 2 anti-tactical ballistic missile will be tested against Scud C and D missiles in mid-2004. The tests will be performed at the US Navy's range at Point Mugu, California. Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) and the Israeli air force will ship an Arrow 2 battery to Point Mugu.

The Scud D has a split warhead and the test is aimed at proving the Arrow's capability to destroy such a warhead, says Arie Herzog, head of the Israeli missile defence organisation.

In previous tests in Israel, the Arrow 2 intercepted a Black Sparrow air-launched target. The Black Sparrow was developed as an airborne ballistic target for use in tests of anti-tactical ballistic missiles, and is based on the Rafael Popeye AGM-142 air-to-surface TV guided missile.
