Private equity firm Indigo Partners has signed a memorandum of understanding for 430 Airbus A320neo family aircraft at the Dubai air show.

This comprises 273 A320neos and 157 A321neos, valued at $49.5 billion at list prices. An engine selection has not been made.

Airbus says that 146 of the aircraft will go to Wizz Air, 134 to Frontier Airlines, 80 to Volaris and 70 to JetSmart.

Indigo controls Frontier and Chilean low-cost start-up JetSmart and also holds stakes in Mexican budget airline Volaris and European low-cost carrier Wizz. Canada’s Enerjet also plans to partner with Indigo to launch a new ultra-low-cost carrier in the Canadian market.

If firmed, this will make Indigo Partners one of the largest customers for the A320neo aircraft family, rivaling the 404-aircraft backlog of AirAsia and the 430-order total of Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo, which has no business relationship with the US investment firm.
