Flight International online news 08:00GMT: Egyptair has ordered six Boeing 737-800s and taken purchase options on six more after concluding contract negotiations with the US manufacturer.

The Egyptian flag-carrier, which already operates four Boeing 737-500s, will take delivery of its first 737-800 in September next year. Deliveries of the remaining aircraft will run until the end of 2009.

Egyptair chairman and CEO Atef El Hamed said: “These new 737-800s, with their high degree of reliability and ruggedness, offer us the opportunity to maximise our operating efficiency and provide excellent service to our passengers.”
