El Al will boost its long- haul fleet later this year, with the lease of a Boeing MD-11 from World Airways.
The MD-11ER will be introduced in June on an aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance lease from World. The aircraft will be operated for El Al through to October on routes from Israel to various US cities, supplementing the airline's own long-haul fleet of Boeing 747s, and 767s.
The move comes as the Israeli flag carrier is preparing to issue a tender later this year for up five medium-capacity, long-haul aircraft, in the Airbus A330/Boeing 777 category. An order is expected to be finalised this year.
