Israel-based ElectroOptics Industries (ELOP) has won a major contract with the Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) on the civilian Multi Spectral Camera (MSC) satellite programme.
The MSC payload will fly on the Kompsat-2 satellite that is due to be launched in 2003. Kompsat-2 is a continuation of the Kompsat-1 satellite that was launched successfully in December 1999.
The satellite's main mission is to survey the earth's natural resources, large-scale disasters and acquire high-resolution images for geographical and mapping work.
KARI and ELOP will jointly design, develop and manufacture the MSC payload as well as the related ground support equipment.
