Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) and Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) have reached an initial agreement to upgrade the Indian Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) with modern avionics and systems. IAI, selected over Elbit Systems and Eurocopter, will assist in marketing the ALH in other countries. The Indian army needs 300 machines. The Lahav division of IAI will act as prime contractor for the programme, with the Taman and Mata divisions also participating.
