Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) says it is in advanced negotiations about a contract that would lead to it manufacturing parts for Airbus.

"We are close to an agreement about manufacturing aerostructures for Airbus," confirms Gad Cohen, IAI's corporate executive vice-president for commercial aviation.

Cohen says the offer being made to Airbus is based on IAI's capability to building aerostructures from advanced composite materials using robotic systems.

IAI already manufactures aerostructures for the Boeing 777 and 787, and Cohen says it has recently received new contracts from the US manufacturer.

"We plan to become a major player in the manufacture of aerostructures in many types of aircraft," Cohen says.
