India's Jet Airways is to boost its ATR 72-500 fleet to eight aircraft by early next year, as it restructures its mix of leased Boeing 737s.

The carrier will add the first of the three new ATR 72s on 20 August, followed by the second on 20 October and the third in January.

The 737 fleet changes follow a deal with lessor Boullioun Aviation Services to sell it two of its Boeing 737-400s and in return lease two 737-700s.

The 737-700s will arrive in November and December, when the -400s will leave the fleet. Jet says they are in addition to current firm orders with Boeing for 10 737-700/800s.

Jet currently operates 32 aircraft, including five ATR 72-500s, 10 737-400s, eight 737-700s and nine 737-800s. The carrier has Indian Government approval to operate 29 737s.
