The US Air Force has awarded Boeing a $1.5 billion contract to support its 59-strong fleet of KC-10A Extender tankers after a fiercely contested battle with incumbent contractor Lockheed Martin. The work will be managed and performed at the newly opened Boeing Aerospace Support Center at Kelly AFB, San Antonio, Texas. The contract also covers operation and supply of services at McGuire AFB, New Jersey; Ramstein AB, Germany; Travis AFB, California and Yokota AB, Japan. Boeing will also maintain, repair and modify the remote aerial refuelling system for two Royal Netherlands Air Force KDC-10 tankers and will support them at Eindhoven Air Base in the Netherlands.
