Air France has become the second customer for Boeing's longer-range 747-400 Freighter. This growth derivative of the 747-400F offers either a 982km (530nm) range boost, or an extra 9,980kg (22,000lb) worth of payload. Air France Cargo executive vice president Marc Boudier says the airline will make use of the aircraft's greater performance on existing long haul routes such as Mexico City, Hong Kong, Sïo Paolo and Bangkok. Slated for delivery in October 2002, the Air France order comes on top of the five-strong requirement from International Lease Finance confirmed earlier this month. (Flight International, 8-14 May).
