Polish flag-carrier LOT is to appoint acting chief Marek Grabarek as the airline's new chief executive, defying the threat of possible strikes from representatives of the company's unions.
Grabarek has been in charge of LOT since the decision by predecessor Jan Litwinski to step down in mid-March.
LOT has been assessing a series of candidates, including Grabarek, over the last few days in order to select a permanent chief executive.
Grabarek has been the favoured candidate of the Polish treasury, the main shareholder of LOT, but his strong connection to the Polish government had prompted fears of union unrest within the carrier.
