KATE SARSFIELD / LONDON

Abu Dhabi's first business aviation charter operator was launched on 4 May by joint venture partners Abu Dhabi Aviation and Abu Dhabi Amiri Flight. Royal Jet will operate a single Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) in 30- or 42-seat configuration and also has orders for two Gulfstream G300s and options for three more. First deliveries are scheduled for August and September.

Royal Jet will be targeted at the luxury charter market in the UAE and Europe, says chief executive Tilmann Gabriel. "There is a huge gap in the UAE for this type of service," he says. The aircraft is also available for medevac operations.

"We are planning rapid growth and new aircraft will be added to the fleet," says Gabriel. "We can also trade the G300 options for G400s if a larger cabin is required."

Partners Amiri Flight and helicopter charter and offshore operator Abu Dhabi Aviation are building a dedicated fixed base operation (FBO) at Abu Dhabi International airport to house the Royal Jet operation. "The FBO will be open at the end of next year," says Gabriel.
