Saab Aerostructures has signed a long term agreement to co-operate in the manufacture of subassemblies and components for the aircraft industry with Romanian aircraft manufacturer Romaero.

“The agreement is a step forward in establishing a strategic alliance between Saab and Romaero and the strengthening of the commercial relations between the two companies,” says Saab.

Vice-president and head of procurement of Saab Aerostructures, Mikael Heelge, said “the value of the contract amounts to around $5million for the next five to seven years.” He adds that the contract “is a framework contract for an unlimited value, depending on the production capacity of Romaero.”

The Saab deal follows news that EADS Socata, based in Tarbes, south west France is to shift production of its TB20 and TB21 piston engine aircraft to Romania in a deal with Eurocopter Romania and state-owned IAR.
