A ShinMaywa US-2 amphibious aircraft operated by the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force was involved in a major accident off the coast of the nation’s Kochi province.

A news report on social media shows the aircraft, bearing tail number 9905, floating nose down in the sea, its fuselage perpendicular to the waves.

Reports indicate that all 19 aboard the aircraft were rescued, but that four were injured in the accident, which apparently occurred while the aircraft was conducting a training operation on 28 April. It is not clear if the aircraft was attempting to land or takeoff when the accident occurred.

The footage shows the aircraft’s wings still above the water, and a Japanese warship near at hand.
