Privatisation of French airports operator ADP will be delayed after the country's constitutional court approved a referendum on the planned sale of the government's stake.
The French government had last summer disclosed a plan to offload its 50.6% stake in ADP, which runs Paris airports Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Le Bourget, as part of a sale of other assets.
The referendum, brought by opposition politicians, now requires the signatures of 4.7 million of the electorate.
In comments posted on his Twitter account, French finance minister Bruno Le Maire today said no decision on the privatisation of ADP would be taken during the referendum period and that the government would use the delay to better explain the planned sale.
"The privatisation will be used to finance innovation [and] to pay down the country's debt, and is in the general interest," he says.
ADP declined to comment on the court's decision.
