Former Air Baltic chief executive Martin Gauss has resurfaced as the newly-appointed head of Gulf Air.

He will take over as the Bahrain-based airline’s leader on 4 November, following the departure of current chief Jeffrey Goh. Goh was appointed to lead the Gulf Air holding group at the end of 2022.

Gauss had been a long-term head of Air Baltic, leading its fleet modernisation and preparing the carrier for an initial public offering, before departing earlier this year after a no-confidence vote.

He says Gulf Air has a “rich legacy” and a “strong foundation” on which to build.

“We will continue Gulf Air’s transformation journey and enhance its competitiveness regionally and globally,” he adds.

Gauss’s appointment, and Goh’s departure, have been confirmed by group chair Khalid Taqi.

Taqi underlines Gauss’s experience in transformation programmes and fleet modernisation, and says he has confidence in his ability to strengthen Gulf Air’s competitiveness and improve its operational performance.
