Romanian operator Animawings is aiming to expand its fleet to 18 aircraft over the next two years, as it introduces a third Airbus A220-300 to operation.

The airline has five aircraft, operating two Airbus A320s alongside the A220s.

But it states that it intends to take the fleet to 18 by the end of 2027, with the “most valuable portfolio” in the Romanian private aviation sector.

The latest A220 is configured with 137 seats, including 12 in the business-class cabin.

“For us, passengers are at the centre of every decision,” says president Marius Pandel.

“This is a strategic investment not only for us as a company, but for the whole of Romania, being the largest investment project in aeronautical infrastructure in recent decades.”

Animawings is consolidating its domestic network, connecting the primary airports in Romania – Bucharest Otopeni, Timisoara, Iasi, Craiova, Cluj and Suceava – with cities including Munich, Prague, Sofia, Istanbul, Tel Aviv and Dubai.

The airline, part of Memento Group, plans to introduce a Geneva service in March next year.

Its three A220-300s are registered YR-GUN, YR-FUN and YR-CHR. The airline’s two A320s – YR-AGC and YR-AGD – are fitted with 180 seats.

Animawings will take delivery of another two aircraft this year, followed by four aircraft in the first half of 2026, and the remainder in 2027.

“In a market dominated by low-cost, we want to show that solid aeronautical projects can also be built in Romania,” says Pandel.
