Star Alliance has named SAS executive Charlotta Wieland as its interim chief, after the decision by Jeffrey Goh to step down.

Wieland is the vice-president for alliances and industry at the Scandinavian carrier.

She has served on the Star Alliance management board for six years and is also a member of the strategy committee.

Wieland will take over from Goh – who is moving to oversee Bahrain’s Gulf Air Group Holding – at the beginning of January.

She says SAS has a “special history” with the alliance, as it was one of the original partners to found Star when it emerged 25 years ago.

Star Alliance is continuing to search for a permanent successor to Goh.
