Remotec, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman (booth 2501) unveiled at this year's AUVSI a new addition to its line of ground robots, Titan.

The smallest of its line, which ranges up to 700lb, the 120lb Titan is currently in development, and the company hopes it will be fielded around this time next year, said Mark Kauchak, Remotec director of marketing and customer support.

The smallest weight class robot the company has ever made, Kauchak says the robot represents the first time the company started entirely from scratch when creating a new ground system.

The robot, which has been in development for a year, has completed its chassis testing. Now the company plans to focus on its manipulator with the ultimate goal of having two robotic arms on the platform.

"Our initial target market is going to be toward the EOD [explosive ordnance disposal] and SWAT market," he said, adding it could be used in other civil and possibly military markets. "We've known there's really a gap in the hazmat marketplace."

The interface for the robot is also a shift for Remotec, which decided to use a touch screen as controls for ease of use and training. The system can be used in non-line-of-sight scenarios.

"For everything we do, non-line-of-sight is more important," said Kauchak of the 984ft-range robot.
