The Boeing/Lockheed Martin team has completed its first flight of a Small Diameter Bomb Increment 2 (SDB 2) precision-guided weapon from a Boeing F-15E at Eglin AFB in Florida. The team is competing with Raytheon to develop the all-weather, moving-target weapon, with the US Air Force scheduled to award a contract by late 2009. Boeing supplies the air vehicle - a derivative of its 115kg (250lb) SDB 1 GPS-guided bomb - and datalink, while Lockheed supplies the multi-mode seeker.
