US Air Force Boeing C-17s completed what is thought to be the longest-distance airborne mission in history on 15 September, when eight aircraft were flown 14,508km (7,842nm) non-stop from Pope AFB, North Carolina, to Uzbekistan. The aircraft underwent three aerial refuellings during the flight, which lasted for 20.7h.
