The ink on the certificates was hardly dry as Bombardier unveiled its Challenger 300 here at Le Bourget and announced that it had received back-to-back Canadian and US certification.
The super-midsize business jet, four years in the making, was awarded US Federal Aviation Administration certification just five days after earning Transport Canada approval - another first for Bombardier, says Peter Edwards, president, Bombardier Business Aircraft.
"Obtaining type certifications from both these regulatory authorities within just days of each other is unprecedented in corporate aviation history. The Challenger 300 will set the standard in the super-midsize category."
Gleaming
Alongside the gleaming aircraft, Edwards - who had to compete with the flying display commentator to make himself heard - was joined by Pierre Beaudoin, Bombardier Aerospace president and chief operating officer, and John Holding, executive vice-president of engineering and product development. Also in attendance was Paul Tellier, president and chief executive of Bombardier who joined the group at the beginning of the year from Canadian National Railway (CN).
The Challenger 300 is joined here by two other debutants in the Bombardier business jet family: the Global 5000 makes its first appearance outside the USA, as does the Learjet 40.
