NATO has selected the Crystal IP data encryption system developed by Oslo, Norway-based Thales Communications as the alliance's standard internet protocol (IP) cryptographic equipment. The system will protect data, video conferencing and voice over IP communications. Boeing has received a $25.1 million US Department of Defence contract to provide 202 Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) kits for the 900kg (2,000lb) Mk84 bomb and 948 JDAM kits for the 900kg BLU-109 warhead. CTT has received a contract from FMV, the Swedish defence material administration, to supply a zonal drying system for testing on a Swedish air force Lockheed Martin C-130. The dehumidification system, normally used on airliners, will mainly protect electrical and avionics systems. BAE Systems Australia has signed a deal with Boeing as in-country partner to support the Royal Australian Air Force Airborne Early Warning and Control programme. Under the A$400million ($204million) deal, BAE will develop, supply and support the electronic support measures, electronic warfare self protection (EWSP) systems, mission simulator, mission support segment and the AEW&C support facility. BAE Australia has separately signed a deal with the Australian Department of Defence for the initial design of EWSP systems for the Sikorsky S-70A-9 Black Hawk and Boeing CH-47D Chinook helicopters as well as C-130J Hercules transports. CACI international has been awarded a $21 million contract by Sverdrup Technology to support the latter's technical and engineering acquisition support contract at the US Air Force Air Armament Center at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. Saab/BAE Systems has issued nine contracts worth $2.9 billion to South African companies as part of the $7.2 billion offset obligations related to the purchase of 28 Gripen fighters. Companies receiving contracts include Denel and Grintek.
