SaabTech of Sweden has secured its first order for electronic warfare systems on the Boeing F/A-18 with the Royal Australian Air Force signing an initial contract for BOL countermeasures dispensing systems.

The order, worth $2 million, covers acquisition of BOL units for test and evaluation by the RAAF as part of its Hornet Upgrade Programme. Depending on trial outcomes, a follow-on order for more than 250 units, based on four dispensers per aircraft, is proposed for late 2005 if funding can be secured.

The RAAF has been looking at the pylon mounted BOL variant for more than a year.
