The first BAE Systems Hawk destined for the South African Air Force (SAAF) made its maiden flight at the company's Warton site on 2 October. This is the only aircraft of the SAAF order for 24 to be built in the UK. The remainder will be assembled in South Africa by Denel Aviation, with deliveries due for completion by 2006. The SAAFHawks are 100-series aircraft designated Hawk 120s and are powered by Rolls-Royce/Turbomeca Adour 951s.
