Canada's National Research Council (NRC) is using a 52-year-old North American Harvard Mk IV (T-6) military trainer to study pilot disorientation at unusual attitudes with modern flat-panel cockpit displays.

As part of the research, pilots fly it fully inverted under an opaque canopy with screen symbology turned off. They are then instructed to turn on the screen, decipher their position and attitude before recovering to straight and level. The project could lead to an entirely new panel for pilots.
