An Iberia-backed low-cost carrier will launch operations in October from Barcelona with a fleet of five leased aircraft that are likely to be Airbus A320s. Iberia, which has linked with four partners, will hold an 80% stake and provide almost half of the initial €50 million ($62 million) investment in the new carrier, but hold only 20% of the voting rights to prevent union involvement in the carrier. The airline’s fleet is expected to increase to 30 aircraft within two years.
