MTU, the Daimler-Benz aero-engine subsidiary, has joined the team promoting the General Electric T700/T6E engine for the NH Industries NH90 helicopter.
To date, the engine has been developed by GE together with Italian partners Alfa Romeo and FiatAvio, which developed the -T6A variant for Italian versions of the EH Industries EH101 helicopter. The new version will be fitted in an NH90 prototype later this year, according to MTU. The company will have a 21% production share of engines for German NH 90s - if it is selected, rather than the Turboméca/Rolls-Royce RTM 322 - and 15% on engines built for other countries.
