Russian carrier Ural Airlines is to enter the market for flights between Moscow and London with a service to the UK capital's Stansted airport.

Ural Airlines has previously indicated that it wanted to serve London and had been granted rights on the city pair.

It says it intends to open a connection from Moscow Domodedovo to London Stansted on 20 December.

Ural will fly four times weekly on the route.

Its reservations engine indicates that the service will be operated by Airbus A320s. Ural's fleet includes 24 A320s and two A320neos, plus 15 A321s and five A319s.

"Opening of the new route is not only good news for Moscow but also for other cities in Russia," says the carrier.

It states that passengers will be able to connect to London from such locations as Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Omsk and Barnaul.

British Airways and Aeroflot fly between London Heathrow and Moscow, with Aeroflot serving Sheremetyevo airport and BA serving both Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo.

Wizz Air's UK division has also started flights to Moscow Vnukovo from London Luton.
